Sunday Funnies: Social Studies Dying a Slow Death

Why are history teachers really nervous right now? Because the people who are either in political office or want to be in office are clearly not listening to them.

This week, we had a very very high official, okay, it was the President, who claimed that Abraham Lincoln was the founder of the Republican Party. Ummmmmm no. Didn’t happen.

In Governor Rick Perry’s book, FED UP, he claims the states’ rights of the North were being trampled on.

Michele Bachmann swears that John Quincy Adams was a Founding Father.

And “historian” and con artist David Barton keeps pushing the talking point that the majority of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were Christian, and that nothing that was put in the Constitution was not agreed to by the clergy.

History is just dying a very slow death.
