NCAA: It is Time to Pay College Athletes

And For a Football Playoff System

I’m a pacifist, and I don’t believe in the death penalty. When it comes to college sports however, I believe that Miami University deserves the DP for the violations its men’s basketball and football teams committed. However, with such a bad economic climate, I doubt it happens.

However, this and the Terrelle Pryor situation, where he and several teammates took money in exchange for jerseys signed by them and in which they were NOT suspended for their BCS bowl game, has convinced me it is time to start paying college athletes as if they were like staff persons. They do represent the universities, and the compensation should be limited to the cost of attendance per school.

In addition, the NCAA could afford this if they changed from the stupid (no offense to stupid people) Bowl Championship Series in favor of a 12-16 team playoff system, with bowl games playing as well.

You’re welcome.

HEre is the problem. NOT all schools are like LSU , USC ,Ohio State, Alabama etc.

If we pay Football players cost of attendance then that mean ALL atheltes are going to have be paid Cost of Attendance. The vast majority of Schools in a State cannot not afford to do this on their own so they will have ask the Taxpayer to pay the bill. That will not be popular when the whole Shall we fire teachers or pay players discussion comes up.

I am not anti Cost of attendnace because I know the roadblocks these kids have on even getting a part time job.

However if we go down this road we need to realize that have chnaged College Sports forever. Many schools will be hard pressed to find this in the budget. Maybe it’s doable? But I think we got to stop thinking every NCAA school is like Michigan or something.

    As ot the Playoff BOOOOO!!
