Dear Australia, Moses Wore A Veil; Would You Target Him?

“When Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil on his face”- Exodus 34:33, NRSV

As if we needed more evidence that the nations of the world are moving towards fascism, yet another European majority country is taking a stand against the freedom of religion and individual expression. Group think has become so popular these days, I don’t know why that could be…….

Anyways, Australians are working on a law that would force Muslim women to show their face or face time in jail. No, seriously. As a Baptist, who firmly holds to the freedom to freely choose religious expression, I find these laws repulsive, and an indignation. And if you don’t think they will come for Christians or Jews or Buddhists, just you wait.

Australia looking to join the ranks of neutral countries like Switzerland. Disgusting. All I can say.

This brought to you by the Jiggly Puff Post.

Lol! Don’t know how you pull this stuff off, Rod. But keep doing it.

In re. your former question about Americans and Texans in political rallies – take a peek at the psychiatric analysis of – “The Apocalyptic Other” – by Charles Stozier (in, “The Fundamentalist Mindset”) for a pretty good clue about what’s underneath the virginal veils of fundamentalists (psychiatrists always have to take a peak underneath, you know) and how political tropes of religious paranoia (threats of apocalypse to the demise of fundies) are pretty much always hanging around in the U.S. under the veils of fundies, as latent potentials, ready to be stroked by the eros of politicians courting and touching just the ‘right’ erogenous zones in public life …

If Canadians keep up liberalizing trends, then maybe we need to send in the U.S. Marines? – take over your beaches? – wouldn’t that show you Cannuncks what the hell life is really about (or is it, ‘aboot’ in crazy-Canada-speak?)?

    Cheers,

    Jim

… “peak” is pun intended for those who first take a peek at what’s underneath

“And if you don’t think they will come for Christians or Jews or Buddhists, just you wait.”

    Don’t forget the HINDUS!

You’re quite right in thinking that these restrictions will come for other faiths eventually…but you might be disregarding the fact that a lot of these laws are coming FROM some of these other faiths.

  4. Random Arrow says:

Amanda! Gotta get this straightened out.

First, it’s not gender confusion on my part – between you and Rod, okay?

Second, if you really want the answer to your question about Texans, then do this: 1) travel to Texas and meet up with Rod, 2) have Rod dress up like Ruby-Rhod in the “Fifth Element” …

    http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Ruby+Rhod%22&hl=en&lr=&prmd=ivnso&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=4ysaTta2IoOksQPR_sTjDQ&ved=0CCgQsAQ&biw=1600&bih=727

    3) take Rod out on a date in Texas, to an evangelistic political crusade in public, and make Rod walk around preaching liberation theology and, 4) you, you stand stand back, way back –a safe distance – about the distance of a Texas mile and, 4) you do your own experiment and make your own observations: a) Rod Ruby-Rhod with a veil and, b) Rod Ruby-Rhod without a veil in Texas – over that huge, massive proboscis hair-doo …

… and report back your own results. Tell us how brother love’s traveling liberation theology salvation show does in Texas …

    Cheers,

    Jim

  5. Random Arrow says:

… Rod, I’ve done some asylum and sanctuary work for migrants … but never for Texans … so if that experiment gets a little nasty, politically, maybe I can help ya out a little … ya never know …

God, this reminds me. I had a Texas client once, for bankruptcy. I had to get advice from a Texas attorney (better to file in Texas or in California?) … he tells me that one of the federal bankruptcy judges assigned to the Texas circuit sits in his chamber and plays booming loud music, for everyone to hear in open court, Johnny Cash’s nearly final song, “God’s gonna cut you down!” … “Hang’em Bob,” or “Hang’em Ben” … or some Texas name like that … Texas evangelical judiciary … I don’t even know if the story was a mytho-poetic way of telling where it’s best to file, or even if the name’s correct … but the story of the moral is … don’t go broke in the poke in Texas.

Rod, it’s really crazy, the variations still between the states.

I do sometimes feel like a traitor doing band-aid cases – one case at a time – inside a larger system that needs a lot of – liberation.

    I have no answers.

    God, save me!

    Peace out!

    Jim

Your post is not very accurate. The Bill is about temporarily removing the veil for the purpose of identification when suspected of a crime. This issue arises where despite being video taped and in the presence of police officers, an individual whose identity is concealed by face coverings cannot be identified to meet the evidential burden of a court.

This is not about banning the burqa or hijab, the suggestion of which has been slammed by NSW Parliament before with a vote of 26 to 3 in the Upper House.
