In sports, it is widely held that there is no such thing as moral victories.
I beg to differ.
Jesse Owens, the African American track and field Olympic star in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, the same Olympics where 2 Jewish runners were denied the privilege to participate out of the US’s fear that they might put the Third Reich to shame, still stands as a patriotic symbol of hope. His gold medal victory transcends a mere athletic event, and touches the moral fabric of the universe. After winning one race, Hilter walked out in disgust. Wonder why?
Oh, Jesse Owens’ moral victory.
