CONFESSION: I BOYCOTTED WATCHING DANCING WITH THE STARS THIS WEEK BUT STILL VOTED FOR RALPH MACCHIO

Over at the Crunk Feminist Collective, debate ensued over how arguments over responses to Chris Brown’s comeback can lead to disturbances in dating relationships. Wanna know how I feel about CB? Not enough words to post how I feel that he has been given cheap grace, that he was never confronted for his actions, and that black & womanist theologies have failed to address domestic violence in African American communities. But that is for another day. Sigh. That was the reason why I did not watch DWTS this past week (that being CB).
Political Jesus’ Amanda Mac, over at Cheese-Wearing Theology gives advice to women who want to go into the academy as theologians.
Speaking of women and the academy, one of my favorite blogs is returning. Each morning late last fall, I would read my bible and then go straight to wordpress subscriptions for BEING A WOMAN IN PHILOSOPHY. Reading the narratives of women confronting the day to day realities of kyriarchy and sexism was informative and I felt strengthened by these women in their courage.
And speaking of courageous women in academia, in case you were wondering who exactly was the scholarly lady is in the picture above; it is Elizabeth Johnson, C.S.J., feminist theologian, and author of The Quest for the Living God (a book I had not read yet, but now I want to). Dr. Johnson C.S.J. is under scrutiny from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops which has declared her work as a “radical departure” with tradition. Their findings can be found HERE.
The funny part about all of this is that Johnson wrote this book, oh, THREE years ago and has offered to discuss her work with the USCCB. Personally, I have been influenced by Johnson’s She Who Is. BTW, does anyone find it ironic that this all happens the same time as the Rob Bell controversy was just dying down (sorta)?
Since I have yet to read the text, but have agreed with much that I have seen from excerpts, I must defer to Erin Kidd and her defense of The Quest For The Living God:
Part I ; Part II ; Part III; Part IV
