My first Monastery Monday was a success.  I started and finished a book. For this week, I decided to read Death to the BCS: The Definitive Case Against the Bowl Championship Series.

As one who cheers on politicians who take on corporatists, this book was almost too easy to like for its own good. Yeah, it could do without the stringing on our emotions part, and I may have some doubts about the big time profits they predict that a playoff would bring in, but on principle, a playoff for college football is the way to go.

Yes, the BCS is a cartel, and an illegal one at that, I believe it, and this book makes the case for it. The work is highly accessible and filled with surprising facts that exposes the epic failure that is the BCS.

I would like to recommend that you follow the campaign on Twitter & facebook. There is also an official federally registered Politcal Action Committee, Playoff PAC that submits complaints to the IRS and lobbies for the federal government to get involved in breaking up the BCS cartel. Here is the official website for Playoff Pac.
