Late last year, I pointed to a story about a group of white supremacists who plan to boycott the Thor movie because there will be a black actor portraying a Norse god.
Well, life just keeps getting better for people of color, who happen to love science fiction and comic books. DC Comics has began a story where Batman has to go to France, and he teams up with a vigilante much like himself, named Night Runner. Instead of finding “a real Frenchman,” one blogger takes major issue with Night Runner’s identity as a Sunni Muslim immigrant. Of course, the label of “politically correct” gets thrown in there. However, this is ridiculous and borderline fanatic, if you ask me. Someone from the margins does not have the ability to play the role of saviour in our imaginations? Hmmmm. And you know, DC comics is not the liberal propaganda machine that Marvel Comics is. I mean, Hawkman, as everyone knows, is conservative. But I guess the author of that idiotic blog post would not know the difference, would he? No one in their right mind should take the article in question seriously. It adds up to little more than Orientalism at best, and at the worst and ugliest, Islamophobia.
Being a faithful Christian should not be equated with being anti-everything Muslim, especially when its just a comic book. Good grief!
