According to one of my Oracles for 2011, oracle #1, I indeed foresee that 2011 will mark the start of a decade of anger, much like the 1990s.
Leave it to the DC Comic Universe to bring my prediction ever so closer to fruition. Peter Milligan will head up a new series on THE RED LANTERN CORPS.
What does this have to do with my oracle? Well, some say that much of the time, fantasy reflects reality. Red Lanterns are activated by rage. Whether one uses them for good or evil, depends on the wielder of the ring. Anger itself is not evil; it is the outrage that controls individuals and communities that is dangerous.
With all of the economic, political, and soon to be religious anxiety I feel is coming in the months and decade ahead due to the fast pace of changes, I think The Red Lantern Corps emergence is not a coincidence.

The first place I went when I heard the announcement was: “Cha-ching.” I attributed this new series to the desire to profit off the upcoming Green Lantern movie and corresponding hype.
Hadn’t thought about the cultural shift. Intriguing thought. But, try as I might, I can’t get past the idea that this Red Lantern Series is all about profit pure and simple.
Does that make me cynical?
I can’t even say that this is indicative of DC and hence DC sucks. Marvel does the exact same thing.
(But just for the record DC sucks, Marvel rules!)

This malarkey cannot stand. The reason that the Red Lanterns are getting their own series is that fans like them so much. DC has been putting out a ton of good books, and of course, there are some there just to try and get $, but by and large, from my perspective, DC is trying to put the stories 1st. Or close 2nd. Don’t peddle pro-Marvel lies here, lol!
