When It Is Time to Hang 'Em Up………

BUT I'LL BE BACK!

I know that in sports, the greatest athletes of all time do not know when it is time to call it quits.  But today, I made the decision to hang them up temporarily.  But not a specific sport, or blogging, or theological studies.  Since March of 2006, I gave my life to the Black Church Studies program at Brite Divinity School.

As Office Assistant for the Black Church Studies program, I was assigned research projects, assisting professors, as well as hospitality duties.  I am not saying that I am like “the greatest Black Church studies student assistant” ever on the level of a Michael Jordan or Brett Favre; but I just know, unlike the two megastars mentioned, when it was time to go.  Fall 2008 was a difficult semester: I served as teaching assistant for the BCS at BDS, as well as doing my Supervised Ministry project at the Baptist Student Ministries,and working as Resident Assistant at a time where there were a lot of international students from TCU who did not have the same work and sleep schedule as the seminarians at Brite Housing’s Leibrock Village.

I consider myself blessed to serve as OA for the BCS at BDS with the opportunity to meet Black Church Studies scholars from around the nation as well as laypersons and clergy who work in African-American congregations.  It was an adventurous 2 and half years.  But that time had come, for me to focus on my studies in the ThM program and to give my best effort at ministering to my height challenged disciples at church.  I wonder if this hiatus will be only temporary since I can see myself directing a Black Church Studies program in the future while working in a church as well.  Either way, my 2.5 year venture as OA has prepared me for the future.
